To celebrate our fifth year in business we have teamed up with a local and nationally known artist to praise and promote the natural beauty of the area in which we live and work.

This year is a momentous one for The South Downs, one of the UK’s best known areas of natural beauty and outdoor recreational pursuits, as The South Downs National Park Authority becomes fully operational.

The park’s 1,600 square kilometres forms the backbone to the areas in which Smartlet operates and in 2011 we will be featuring one artist’s view of the glorious countryside on our doorstep.

Gordon Rushmer has been painting local land and seascapes for more than 40 years and his work forms part of several public and private collections throughout the UK. From his studio in West Sussex Gordon creates watercolour and oil paintings that have been featured in galleries and exhibitions in Portsmouth, Chichester, Petersfield and Guildford.

In addition to featuring some of his local scenes on our website, visitors to the new offices of our Chichester lettings agency will also be able to see a small selection of his work.

“I was pleased to be asked to support a celebration of the glorious countryside in the South Downs area during what is a special year for the newly-designated national park,” said Gordon.

“The South Downs has been an inspiration for artists – both amateur and professional – for many years and everyone must be pleased that such a unique area now has the highest level of landscape protection.”
