  • Obtain - original versions of one or more of the acceptable documents
  • Check – the validity of these documents in the presence of the holder
  • Copy – and retain a clear copy of the document, dated when it was checked

Examples of acceptable documents are:

  • Passport – showing holder is a British Citizen
  • Passport – showing holder is a national of the European Economic Area or Switzerland
  • Registration Document – issued by Home Office indicating permanent residency
  • Full UK birth certificate
